Why We Do It
When we became parents, little did we know that we would have a son who would eventually be labeled as a special needs child. At 21 months, our son was diagnosed with a Pervasive Developmental Disorder, a disorder that lies within the Autism spectrum. Having a child with needs that reach above and beyond those of a typical child is something that shapes a parent’s heart, mind, and spirit. We read everything we could get our hands on, we carried him to therapy every day, and we did everything in our power to insure that he was given every opportunity he needed to thrive.
As he grew, we began to see that computer programs did not seem to cater to the needs of kids like Quinn. Either they were far too young for him, and non-engaging, or they were far too old and frustrating for him. So, we decided to see what we could do to remedy the situation. Michael put together a specialized operating system, complete with suites of educational games, and set a computer console up for our children. We expected Quinn to respond well, but little did we know how well his typically-developing younger sister would respond as well.
In light of the kids’ love for the computer system, we established QuinnCo, Inc., to donate computer systems to children of all creeds, to help as many children as we can fulfill their potential.
